S.T.A.R. Foundation High School Performing Arts Scholarship Awards for 2018-19

The S.T.A.R. Foundation of Monterey County (Support Theater Arts Regionally) Theater Scholarship program exists to help graduating high school seniors pursue their interests in the performing arts beyond the secondary education setting. Scholarship awards are available for theater students having an interest in acting, music,  technical skills, writing, management, etc., whether in a college or community theater program. The awards will be given at the end of the 2017-2018 academic year

NOTE: CURRENT SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS WHO ARE ENROLLED IN COLLEGE ARE ELIGIBLE TO RECEIVE FUNDS EACH YEAR THEY ARE ENROLLED IN A PERFORMING ARTS COURSE OR INVOLVED IN AN EXTRA-CURRICULAR PERFORMANCE. PLEASE SUBMIT PROOF OF THIS IN ORDER TO RECEIVE YOUR SCHOLARSHIP. 

To apply, interested students must submit the following by April 30, 2018:

1)  A completed S.T.A.R. Foundation Scholarship application (see PDF file below with info sheet PDF).

2)  An essay of no less than 200, nor more than 400, words explaining your interests and experience in the performing arts.

3)  A letter of recommendation from your high school arts teacher and, if applicable, from a mentor/director in participation outside of school. Please make sure that the contact information of those submitting a recommendation on your behalf is included on your application.

The range of scholarship awards will depend upon the number of qualified applications received and the amount of scholarship money in the fund. Individual awards are granted to a maximum of $1000. To receive funding after notification of the award, the recipient must produce proof of involvement in theater at their college in the Fall. This proof can be in the form of a copy of one’s class registration, or a letter from the performing arts department’s chair/instructor or community director. The scholarship is renewable for four years of undergraduate work, at which time, the recipient may ask for graduate assistance. Each award will be considered on an individual basis and be subject to funds available.
